Immigration Attorney
F. SYMPHORIEN SAAVEDRA
Associate
"Frank" Symphorien-Saavedra focuses his practice primarily on immigration and nationality law, while also handling a number of criminal and personal injury law matters with immigration law components. Mr. Symphorien Saavedra handles many cases involving traffic or criminal offenses that place an immigrant's status in jeopardy, among other criminal matters. Similarly, Mr. Symphorien Saavedra handles all personal injury cases with particular focus on cases involving immigrant plaintiffs.
A native of Venezuela, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra immigrated to the United States when he was 11 years old. A staunch believer in America's promise of opportunity for his children, his father worked 24-hour shifts as a taxi driver in New York City so he could bring his wife and children to the United States. Upon arriving in the United States, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra quickly became fluent in English, entering English-only classes within a few short months. He continued to excel in school, earning several academic scholarships to the University of South Florida, becoming the first in his family to go to college.
Aspiring to help others fulfill their dreams of immigrating to America, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra worked as a research assistant at an immigration and nationality law firm in Tampa. Through this experience, he developed a passion for his work and decided to pursue a legal career. After graduating with high honors from USF, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra enrolled at The Florida State University College of Law. Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra excelled in law school, focusing his studies on Asylum and Refugee law, International Law, and serving as an editor of the FSU Journal of Transnational Law and Policy.
Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra worked as a law clerk for the Orlando Immigration Court. In this role, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra drafted decisions for the Honorable United States Immigration Judges, Rafael Ortiz-Segura, Earl B. Wilson, and Victoria Ghartey.
Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra's background in international law, as an immigrant, and legal education has allowed him to tackle some of the most complex areas of immigration and nationality law.
In his practice, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra fights deportation/removal charges in Immigration Court based on criminal convictions or other alleged conduct. Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra also regularly helps clients obtain lawful permanent residence (green cards) and non-immigrant visas through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). He provides legal counsel on the Department of State consular process at embassies around the world. Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra also processes employment visas and family petitions, and represents clients during USCIS naturalization or green card interviews.
Because immigration cases often get held up for years in USCIS's administrative process, NeJame Law maintains an active immigration federal litigation practice throughout Florida. As an active participant in this practice, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra regularly assists clients seeking a court order from the U.S. District Court requiring that their case be actively processed.
Additionally, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra challenges legal errors made during immigration hearings, often filing appeals and petitions for review before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the United States Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra's employment-based immigration practice works closely with businesses to guide them in complying with immigration laws, obtaining the appropriate personnel, and achieving business objectives.
Outside of his legal practice, Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra is actively involved with the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida (HBACF) and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (HBACF), Central Florida Chapter. He currently serves as the AILACF liaison for the Customs and Border Patrol Agency and as the Public Relations Chair for HBACF. Mr. Symphorien-Saavedra previously volunteered with Community Legal Service of Central Florida, a free legal aid provider in Central Florida.
