Immigration and criminal defense attorney Rajan
Joshi received his BA from the University of Central FL in 1996,
and received
his
Law
Degree
with
Honors from
the University
of Florida College of Law in 2000. While in law school, Rajan was
selected and employed by the dean of student affairs to be a Council-10
Tutor
in Contracts for first-year law students. Rajan also received the Book
Award in Criminal Procedure for receiving the Highest Grade.
Rajan interned at the Seminole County State Attorney's Office, and
at the Alachua County State Attorney's Office as a certified legal
intern by the Florida Supreme Court. Rajan tried six jury
trials prior to graduating law school.
After law school, Rajan scored among the Top Five Highest
Scores in the Bar Exam for the State of Florida. Based
on Rajan's high Bar Exam Scores and his multiple academic achievements,
Rajan was selected
by the Chief Judge of the Fifth District Court of Appeals to be
the Valedictorian Speaker in Orlando, at the October 2000
Induction Ceremony for Newly Sworn Lawyers.
Defense attorney Rajan Joshi started his legal career as
an assistant state attorney in Jacksonville, FL for four years.
There, Rajan further developed his trial skills. Rajan was promoted
to prosecute
felony cases in less that a year, and was assigned to the Repeat
Offender Court within two years, where Rajan prosecuted habitual
felony offenders
for very serious crimes. Rajan received the 2003 Jury Trial
Award for trying more case than any prosecutor in
the Fourth Judicial Circuit, which includes Duval, Clay and Nassau
County. He also litigated numerous [pst-conviction motions. As
a prosecutor, Rajan assisted in training law enforcement officers,
was on the
hiring committee, and judged teen court and trial practice competitions
for Florida Coastal Law School.
In 2004, after Rajan left the State Attorney's Office, defense
attorney Rajan
worked for an AV rated law firm in Jacksonville and dedicated his
practice
to
criminal defense. In 2006, Rajan returned to Central
Florida where he grew up and his family has lived for thirty years.
Shortly
after returning to Central Florida, Rajan joined the prestigious
law firm of Nejame, Lafay, Jancha, Barker and Tumarkin. His legal
talents and skills were quickly realized and he was soon elevated
to a partner
in less than a year. The firm's name was then changed to NeJame,
LaFay, Jancha, Barker, Tumarkin and Joshi.
Rajan has tried and handled all types of
cases from misdemeanors to felonies punishable by life in prison,
including murder. Rajan practices in all areas of criminal defense,
both State and Federal, including post-conviction relief matters.
Rajan's practice also concentrates on motions to overturn prior
criminal convictions. In 2007, Rajan successfully challenged a
Florida Criminal Statute and had a judge declared the Statute Unconstitutionally.
Rajan's practice is dedicated to criminal
defense and immigration
law.
