Ex-Teacher Gets House Arrest for Sex With Teen - Joel Admitted To Relationship With Teen

A former teacher in Osceola County who had sex with one of her students was sentenced Monday to house arrest followed by probation, her attorneys said.

Sarah Joel, 31, was sentenced to two years of house arrest and eight years of probation, which is less than the 66 months in prison and almost 10 years of probation that prosecutors sought.

Attorney Rajan Joshi of Orlando said the judge departed from the sentencing guidelines for several reasons, including the remorse his client showed.

A teenager at Narcoossee Community School told deputies he had sex with Joel, 31, in her home. Joel admitted to the relationship in September.
