Teacher Arrested for Having Sex with Student

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- A teacher arrested for having sex with a former student bonded out of the Osceola County Jail on Saturday.

Late Friday afternoon Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Sarah Elizabeth Joel , 31, charged her with three counts of lewd & lascivious battery after an investigation revealed she had sexual relations with student who -- at the time -- was in the eighth grade.

Joel's attorney, Rajan Joshi, spoke with FOX 35 and maintains his client's innocence. "Confessions should always be taken with great caution, especially a situation like this where her statements do not match the allegations with the young man. Our position is she is not guilty," said Joshi.

According to the arrest affidavit the student was enrolled at Narcoosee School last year when Joel was his teacher. The two formed a relationship which developed into a sexual one late in the year. Joel is currently a teacher at Narcoosee School.

The student now attends classes at Harmony High School in Seminole County. Detectives began their investigation when a teacher at Harmony told authorities that the student informed her of the affair.
