ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The man accused of pushing his girlfriend over the balcony of an Orange County hotel showed up for his first court appearance with former Anthony family attorney Mark NeJame.
The court appearance was delayed by one day because the judge said Speegle had been placed on suicide watch at the Orange County Corrections Center.
On New Year's Eve Jonathan Speegle's girlfriend, Nicole Hammond fell from the 16th floor of the Orlando World Center Marriott near Disney World. He was arrested by U.S. Marshalls in Lawton, Oklahoma and returned to Orange County on January 30.
Speegle could face first-degree murder charges for her death. Sunday, Speegle's attorney argued for a $50,000 bond and electronic monitoring.
" It's a circumstantial case at best. No charges have been brought," argued NeJame.
The judge cited the suicide watch as a reason for Speegle to remain in custody and denied the $50,000 bond request.
The judge's bond decision could be reversed at a later court hearing.
