Jaguars LB accused of pushing woman's head into window

Dan Skuta arrested in Orlando earlier this month on misdemeanor charge

ORLANDO, Fla. - Jaguars linebacker Dan Skuta was arrested earlier this month in Orlando on a charge of simple battery.

According to the police report, Skuta is accused of pushing a woman's head into a glass window on East Central Boulevard.

The police report from June 19 said Skuta struck up a conversation with the victim, who News4Jax is not naming, flirted with her and asked for her phone number. According to the report, she refused to give it to him and the two began an argument, which turned physical when Skuta pushed the victim's face with an open hand, causing the back of her head to hit a glass window.

The report said the victim did not have any visible injuries and declined medical attention but chose to press charges.

According to the officer who filed the report, Skuta had bloodshot, glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol.

Team spokesman Dan Edwards issued a statement about the arrest on Monday:

"The Jaguars are aware of the situation involving linebacker Dan Skuta and are currently gathering more information. The team has been in constant communication with Dan through this process in its entirety. No further comment can be made at this time."

Skuta's attorney released a statement denying the allegations and said he was "arrested for something that simply did not happen."

"Erroneous conclusions should not be jumped to," Senior Partner NeJame Law, Mark NeJame said. "Dan was alongside his girlfriend when this fabricated event supposedly took place and only verbally instructed two women who were harassing his friends to leave them alone."

According to Skuta's attorney, he was then struck in the face by one of the women.

"They completely contradict the version of the complainant leading to Dan’s arrest," NeJame said.

According to the statement, witnesses confirm that Skuta and his girlfriend walked away from the incident to avoid further trouble from the attacker.

News4Jax spoke with sports agent and attorney Paul Healy about what could happen next for Skuta.

"He could lose game checks and be suspended four games for something of this nature," Healy said. "Its up to the league to determine that."

Healy said that if alcohol was involved, Skuta could be subjected to the NFL's alcohol and drug policy. The policy states that the first violation could result in a two-game suspension.

Skuta, 30, played for Grand Valley State University and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Bengals in 2009.

He's played for multiple NFL teams and was signed as a free agent by the Jaguars last year.
