ORLANDO, Fla. — An immigration attorney in Orlando is fighting President Donald Trump's travel ban with a lawsuit in federal court.
Shahzad Ahmed, with NeJame Law, filed the lawsuit on behalf of an Iranian national whose wife and child live in Orlando.
"The visa issuance has been suspended under the executive order," Ahmed explained. "This family is filled with worry ... their concern is that they'll be permanently separated."
Ahmed said he hopes to get an in junction from a federal judge, and ultimately get the visa issued to his client.
"I have a lot of faith in our judicial system," Ahmed said. "I think at the end of the day, our system will work, and it will strike down the unconstitutional aspects of this order."
Other activists in Orlando believe Trump's action only makes the country stronger.
"What we're looking for right now is for our country to be safe," said Randy Ross, who worked on Trump's campaign in Orange County. "I don't believe our president is not trying to be compassionate or understanding. He's not trying to keep families from each other."
Ross said the public needs to remember the ban is temporary and it's the kind of action Trump talked about during the campaign.
"In the end, what he's trying to do is follow through on what he told the American people he was going to do," Ross said.
Meanwhile, Ahmed's message to the local Muslim community is to not react with fear or anger, but to educate themselves.
