Harold Mills steps away from all board roles after arrest

Prominent businessman Harold Mills has stepped away from all his board roles in Central Florida following his May 9 arrest tied to a prostitution sting in Seminole County.

Mills resigned earlier this week from his board position with the University of Central Florida, which is slated to hold a meeting May 17 to name a new vice chair.

In addition, his attorney Mark NeJame confirmed to Orlando Business Journal that Mills no longer is serving in his other board positions, including at Rollins College, the Orlando Economic Partnership, Lift Orlando and Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Executives with those boards couldn't be reached for comment on what's next for their boards, and when, or if, Mills will be replaced.

NeJame sent the following in a statement to Orlando Business Journal:

"For decades Harold has had the honor of serving on various boards in this community that he cares so deeply about. These organizations work tirelessly to give back in so many generous ways. It’s always been a necessary part of his life to give back to others and to contribute a small part to improving our shared community.

"After deep thought and prayer, to avoid any distractions from the invaluable services these organizations provide, he has resigned or taken a leave of absence from all boards. He believes it is in the best interests for the public he serves, to his fellow board colleagues and to those many wonderful organizations.

"His focus right now will be invested in his well-being, but especially to his family as to ensure they have all the love and support they need."

On May 13, Mills pled not guilty to two misdemeanor charges of alleged indecent exposure and prostitution, according to court documents.

Mills, a Windermere resident, is the CEO of Windermere-based technology and service sector investment firm VMD Ventures and was the former chairman and CEO of workforce solutions firm ZeroChaos.

Mills was a 2022 Orlando Business Journal Power Player and a 40 under 40 honoree in 2010.
