Eric Barker has been fighting for clients as a criminal defense lawyer for almost 30 years. He has litigated approximately 80 criminal trials in eight different counties across the state with offenses ranging from first-degree murder to petit theft. This is in addition to the thousands of court hearings and Motions he has argued, written, and handled. No case is too large or too small for Eric Barker as he believes everyone deserves an aggressive and caring professional defense from their attorney.
Eric first started out as a Public Defender, having worked six years gaining invaluable courtroom experience in all facets of state criminal law. He started in misdemeanor court and when he left the office it was as a felony division chief. He was honored to be awarded the offices highest recognition, the Franklin Graham Award which was awarded to the Outstanding Assistant Public Defender of the Year. Eric left the Public Defender's office to accept a position as an attorney with NeJame law in 1999. He quickly established himself as a leading private criminal defense attorney, and barely one short year later he became a Partner with the Firm. Soon thereafter he expanded his practice to include representing those individuals indicted for criminal offenses in federal courts.
Eric practices solely criminal defense. At NeJame Law we have attorneys who concentrate in multiple other divisions, which allows everyone to focus on their specialty. However, Eric has found that in some cases there is an overlap of issues or needs for a client, and that it's great to have a team of partners who can assist in these other matters, which may include matters involving civil or corporate matters, personal injuries, or immigration.
Through his vast experience, Eric has learned that each case is different and that you cannot use the same approach to attack all cases. The best criminal defense attorneys know when to adjust and pivot according the the circumstances at hand. While some cases need a battering ram, others require more finesse. He strongly believes that best criminal defense lawyers should assess the case and, in conjunction and communication with their client, and devise and implement the strategy that is best for that client and their individual case. Too many attorneys use the same predictable strategy time after time. Creativity and flexibility can often be the elements that is the difference between winning a case or not.
Whether you are charged with a felony or a misdemeanor and need a state or a federal criminal defense attorney, Eric Barker is here to help you navigate you through the criminal justice system. He understands this is a stressful time for you and your family and that you need an attorney who not only knows how to handle your case but also keeps you informed, answers your questions, and understands he is there for you. Regardless of whether your case needs to be tried in front of a jury or a favorable plea is to be negotiated, Eric is here to help.
